ABOUT

Reflections is a virtual solo exhibition by Michigan State University Bachelor of Fine Arts degree candidate Maileen Bugnaski. Bugnaski’s exhibition features selected photographs exploring themes surrounding the representation of women’s bodies in media and its impact on self-perception. The use of material like reflective mylar and imagery sourced from magazines, as well as anecdotes from other women, delves into subjects like body dysmorphia and the severity of fixation on physical appearance. Reflections seeks to demonstrate the extent to which the influx of imagery and messages we consume today impacts our views of ourselves and our bodies, and to create a dialogue and openness about our relationships with our body image. Bugnaski’s work will be on view at maileenbugnaski.com beginning April 5th. The public is invited to contact the artist via the contact form made available on the exhibition website.

Maileen Bugnaski is from Kalamazoo, Michigan and is majoring in Studio Art with a concentration in photography. She is interested in the way that we interact with and consume images, and creating work informed by and in response to the media that we are surrounded with; specifically, she is interested in body image, and its relationship to all the forms of media that bodies are represented in. Bugnaski strives to continue to explore these ideas in her work and for her photography to evolve along with the culture of imagery around us.
